A townhouse of space and light

Emmas Designblogg - 14 Mar 14 kl. 17:46

Amazing angles in this townhouse by German architects XTH-Berlin. The diagonal structures and openings allow the inhabitants too see through the entire house. Brutally simple, with very few materials (concrete, plywood and pine), this house is all about space and light.

When decorating turns into art

Emmas Designblogg - 11 Mar 14 kl. 01:06

Fantastic Frank's latest home styling is actually balancing on the edge to being more of an art installation than home decorating. This serene, all white home is so beautiful, and completely un-liveable... I love it!

Basics from H&M Home

Emmas Designblogg - 06 Mar 14 kl. 18:18

I am very into basic, anonymous design in my own home. I like surrounding myself with timeless things that no one can point out and say where they are from or how much they cost. Flashy things that just shout "designer piece" or "super expensive" aren't my thing, even if I appreciate good design.

The Asplund Stockholm Store

Emmas Designblogg - 06 Mar 14 kl. 07:03

Speaking about Asplund (in my previous post), our last stop on the Design Bloggers United Stockholm Tour was at their store. Asplund had invited us for dinner together with three of their talented designers, so we got to spend our Friday night in beautiful surroundings, indulging in a delicious Turkish buffet, listening to interesting stories from Anya Sebton, Eva Lilja Löwenhielm and Johan Ridderstråle about their design process and inspirations. A wonderful end to our tour!

One Pic Wednesday: Home Office in White

Emmas Designblogg - 05 Mar 14 kl. 15:10

This picture from Elle Decoration shows a very simple and quite minimalistic home office solution made from Ikea's kitchen cabinets. What totally "makes" the image though, are the graphic rugs from Asplund. I have had my eyes on them for years now, but since I never really felt the need for rugs in my home, I never got around to buying them.

Visiting DRY Things showroom/office

Emmas Designblogg - 03 Mar 14 kl. 20:00

About a week ago I met up with photographer Mikael Axelsson again, to visit the combined showroom of DRY Things and office for Dry Creative Projects. They happen to be located in the house where I grew up, so it was a fun experience to see the place again, and step inside what once used to be a small upholstering workshop, and later on an umbrella repair shop, now turned into a beautiful workspace for this creative design team.             Dry Creative Projects is a creative studio with focus on creative direction, art direction and design, and they launched their own brand and webshop DRY Things out of a great passion for graphic design, product design and packaging.

The most stylish hashtag on Instagram

Emmas Designblogg - 28 Feb 14 kl. 11:53

I just wanted to make sure that you have all seen the awesome styling competition that is going on over on Instagram right now. A whole bunch of my favorite stylists, photographers, bloggers and generally stylish and creative persons are having a friendly styling battle where they post still life pictures every day, and you don't want to miss it! They use the hashtag #stylingcompetition, so I collected their photos in a little widget here, but do click over to check them all out!

One Pic Wednesday: Art wall at Da Daa blog

Emmas Designblogg - 27 Feb 14 kl. 01:26

Super cool cat print made by Susanna Vento's daughter, for sale here, as seen in the home of Anna from the Da Daa blog.

Apartment with brass cube by CKR

Emmas Designblogg - 25 Feb 14 kl. 22:37

I just love this minimalist apartment designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune, shown during Stockholm Design Week a couple of weeks ago. Full of angles and squares, but the materials; leather, brass and wood in different hues, soften the impression.

Styling for Ferm Living

Emmas Designblogg - 25 Feb 14 kl. 17:32

As promised, the second part of the photos me and Riikka made for Ferm Living. Grown up spaces this time with a kitchen and living theme, and I'm showing the black and white settings here, while Riikka has a bit more color over at her blog, so click over there to see the rest! If you missed our kids rooms last week, check them out here.

Black + Brown by A Merry Mishap

Emmas Designblogg - 23 Feb 14 kl. 00:02

It's Saturday night and I'm trying to catch up on blog reading after a busy week, while at the same time preparing posts for next week since it's winter's holidays here, meaning I will be spending it running between Lego's, dolls and board games... And just in case you were wondering, no I did not miss the amazing apartment of Josefin Hååg that has been on every blog during the last week, neither did I miss the great work of Lotta Agaton's students where they styled String shelves in inspiring ways. I just didn't have time to blog them, and now I feel like it's too late.

Kids work space, in cooperation with Ferm Living

Emmas Designblogg - 19 Feb 14 kl. 17:00

Last weekend I went to Helsinki to visit Riikka. We had a styling assignment to work on, given to us by Danish design brand Ferm Living. Our mission was to create four photos, two with children's products and two that were more focused on livingroom or kitchen.

Elle Decoration launches online image gallery

Emmas Designblogg - 18 Feb 14 kl. 12:33

One of my favorite Swedish deco mags, Elle Decoration, just launched an image gallery on their site, loaded with hundreds of images in different styles, that you can browse and search according to what room, function or season you need ideas for. Now I'm just whishing for some way to sort the pictures by color as well, and this would be a perfect source of inspiration.

Follow that guy! Kristofer Johnsson

Emmas Designblogg - 14 Feb 14 kl. 08:17

Last year I started this category here, "Follow that...", which was meant to be a weekly column where I could share my favorite instagrammers/pinners/bloggers, but it got off to a rough start as one of the first persons I featured turned out to have stolen some of the images in their account. That made me lose my joy for it, and I stopped making these posts.

String at Stockholm Furniture Fair

Emmas Designblogg - 12 Feb 14 kl. 18:01

Yes, String's stand from Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair is all over the blogosphere, everybody loved it, but so did I, so now I am showing it too!   Styling by Lotta Agaton in her signature black/gray/white/brown style, with original sketches by Nisse Strinning on the new String desks.

Our blogger apartment at Fantastic Frank

Emmas Designblogg - 12 Feb 14 kl. 10:52

I have so much to show you from last week, we had so many great experiences and creative sessions during our Design Blog Tour, and also of course my favorites from the Stockholm Furniture Fair! But I want to start with a tour through the "apartment" I styled at Fantastic Frank's office for our big party where over a hundred bloggers, designers and other cool people came to hang out with us. We had a wonderful evening, but our energy and moods the day after were perhaps not as high...

Basic and clever Stockholm home

Emmas Designblogg - 08 Feb 14 kl. 17:08

While I collect the thousands of impressions, thoughts and images I have from Stockholm Design Week and our Design Blog Tour I'd like to show you these photos shot in a very beautiful and cleverly designed Stockholm apartment by Imberg Arkitekter. The pictures aren't new so you might recognize them already, but I believe the photographer, Pia Ulin, re-edited them for the feature in Elle Decoration, to make them a bit brighter and less moody. Perhaps to suit a bigger audience?

Thursday Tip: RK Design and K is for Black

Emmas Designblogg - 06 Feb 14 kl. 08:16

I have two talented friends who are making these really cool graphics for Society6, a webshop where you can buy art prints, cushion covers, mugs, clocks, t-shirts and you name it, with thousands of different motifs by hundreds of artists and designers. One is Riikka, who goes by the name RK Design there, and the other is Anna, who's selling prints branded K is for Black. They are both making some really cool stuff, so I think you should check them out!

GamFratesi for Lightyears

Emmas Designblogg - 04 Feb 14 kl. 21:54

Danish/Italian designer duo GamFratesi are this years guests of honour at the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair that opened today, and are also presenting several new products at the fair. This is their new table lamp Volume for Lightyears, who always have the most amazing pr pictures!

Sara Medina Lind lives here!

Emmas Designblogg - 04 Feb 14 kl. 07:18

This is the Stockholm home of graphic designer and photographer Sara Medina Lind. I found it via Elv's, who found it over at Plaza, so now I'm waiting for the full home feature in their magazine... You can also follow Sara on Instagram.

Lightfilled Loft in Eindhoven

Emmas Designblogg - 31 Jan 14 kl. 13:40

I was meaning to post this a long time ago, but somehow it got stuck in the draft pile... Better late than never though! This industrial style loft home, located in Eindhoven, belongs to interior stylist Renee Arns, owner of Out of the Blue concept store.

Menu 2014 collection

Emmas Designblogg - 30 Jan 14 kl. 21:11

A bit bummed to be pushing down the pictures from the last post already, but this couldn't wait! I just saw these images from the new 2014 collection by Menu, and had to post them here immediately. Their collections are just getting stronger, and their photos more beautiful.

XXX, a favorite Berlin store and gallery

Emmas Designblogg - 30 Jan 14 kl. 14:39

Today feels like a good day to show you some pictures from my favorite store in Berlin! I visited the XXX shop together with Desiree last year. We both absolutely loved it, and she posted about it here.

Stryntrappa's 3D campaign

Emmas Designblogg - 28 Jan 14 kl. 08:38

This is a 3D campaign for Stryntrappa, a company producing and designing stairs. When shooting stairs you need lots of space, which is hard to find in the narrow hallways where stairs are usually placed, and it becomes quite expensive to build up these amazing environments in the real world, so design agency Elle mElle collaborated with 3D studio Pikcells and interior stylist Susanne Swegen to make these images. I was very curious about how to work as a stylist in a 3D project, so I asked Susanne to explain the differences:   "The biggest difference is that you can decide exactly what kind of house you want, and who lives there.

String Bowl Shelves

Emmas Designblogg - 24 Jan 14 kl. 13:37

The latest news from String are these plastic bowl shelves, suitable for plants or all the small stuff you have laying around the house. I can't quite make up my mind about these... What do you think, hit or miss?

Stockholm Living by Line Klein

Emmas Designblogg - 21 Jan 14 kl. 12:19

I am so curious about this Stockholm home, who lives here? I guess we will just have to wait and see until it is published in a magazine... Or perhaps there are clues in the pictures?

Soft Minimalism Inspo from Fantastic Frank

Emmas Designblogg - 20 Jan 14 kl. 01:28

While doing my weekly real estate surfing I found two nice flats at Fantastic Frank. Both are small and styled in a minimalist but still pretty soft way, not too graphic, just my style! Also, perfect inspiration as I am trying to clear out some stuff that has been accumulating since I moved in last summer.

Hidden goodies by photographer Jonas Ingerstedt

Emmas Designblogg - 17 Jan 14 kl. 08:22

I somehow tripped over Swedish photographer Jonas Ingerstedt's portfolio on his German agent's site, and found pictures that I hadn't seen on his own site. Perhaps you have seen them before? Some of them are pretty old, but I still think they work quite well with the current trends.

One Pic Wednesday: At Nathalie's place

Emmas Designblogg - 15 Jan 14 kl. 21:34

This photo from the home of interior stylist Nathalie Schwer brought my mind straight back to last summer when our blog tour group had dinner at her place. Such a magical evening!

Extreme Monochrome in Copenhagen

Emmas Designblogg - 14 Jan 14 kl. 22:29

I challenge you to find even the tiniest brightly colored detail in this home! There are no other colors outside the neutral white, gray and black scheme, at least not that I can spot. To me, this is very relaxing and easy on the eyes, and the warm white and gray hues keeps it from becoming sterile.

Monday Mix #16

Emmas Designblogg - 14 Jan 14 kl. 13:30

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6     Monday Mix, one day late... Why does the year always start of with a hysterical rush? And why are all the design fairs happening at the same time?

Butchers and Bicycles Copenhagen showroom

Emmas Designblogg - 10 Jan 14 kl. 12:12

Hot off the press! New cargo bike brand Butchers and Bicycles, established in November last year, just opened this amazing showroom in the meatpacking district of Copenhagen. I have never seen a bike shop like this, but then again I have never seen one run by the former head of design for Menu, so I suppose this was to be expected.

Nendo's new desk accessories

Emmas Designblogg - 09 Jan 14 kl. 16:36

These are the latest news from Japanese design house Nendo for their own brand by | n, a range of desk accessories and office supplies, with some very clever details. The marks on the rulers are fading from white to black, to be seen easily on any color backgrounds. Pie chart shaped sticky notes with a bigger adhesive area to solve the problem of square and rectangular sticky notes that can be easily ripped off when their corners are caught.

Joanna Laajisto lives here!

Emmas Designblogg - 08 Jan 14 kl. 08:10

This is the Helsinki home of interior architect and designer Joanna Laajisto and photographer Mikko Ryhänen. I have written about Joanna's projects before, and their old home here, so I was excited to see pictures from their new apartment. I met Joanna and Mikko last year when they were in Stockholm for a vacation, and took them to my favorite coffee place.

Fresh New Year!

Emmas Designblogg - 07 Jan 14 kl. 13:26

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6     Welcome to a fresh new year! I hope you too are feeling rested and inspired after the holidays. I love January as it feels like we have a totally blank canvas to fill with whatever we want!
